The Kyoto Protocol is an international agreement linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. Created on December 11, 1997, it commits its parties to reduce energy waste and pollution by setting internationally binding emission reduction targets. Today is the anniversary of the day it went into force on February 16, 2005.
